Brian Begert

Managing Partner

As Managing Partner and co-founder at Yellow Point, Brian is primarily involved in sourcing and assessing prospective partnerships, as well as facilitating growth and new initiatives at our investee companies. He also chairs and participates on several Yellow Point portfolio company boards. In 1989, Brian co-founded Goepel Shields & Partners, an investment firm that was acquired by Raymond James in 2000. During his tenure at the firm, he served as managing director of investment banking, a role that saw him coordinate mergers and acquisitions, and help numerous service, industrial and technology companies raise equity capital.

Brian holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California and an MBA from the University of British Columbia.

Brian was a varsity gymnast at USC, competing both at an intercollegiate level in the US and within Canada. Brian and his family are active supporters of BC amateur sports and enjoy outings together on the ski hill and golf course. As the father of three competitive and high-energy sons, Brian is well-practiced in building teams and operating in chaotic environments—two skills vital in helping build successful world-class companies.

Dave Chapman

As Managing Partner and co-founder at Yellow Point, Dave spends much of his time identifying new investment opportunities and encouraging growth in existing portfolio companies. He was previously CEO of Greenlight Power Technologies, a privately-held energy technology company that he successfully repositioned from a small niche player to the global leader in its field. In 2003, Dave engineered the sale of Greenlight to a strategic buyer. Prior to Greenlight, Dave was a Senior Vice President in the investment banking group of Merrill Lynch.

Dave holds the ICD.D Designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors, an MBA from the University of Western Ontario, and a B.Com. from the University of Calgary.

He is a partner of BC Social Venture Partners, a group of business executives tackling BC’s largest social challenges through a venture philanthropy model. He is also a member of the Foundation Board of Directors of BGC (formerly Boys and Girls Clubs) South Coast BC.

On the weekends you can find Dave enjoying the great outdoors of Vancouver on a hike, bike or stand-up paddleboard. Other passions include nature photography, reading, coaching and playing sports with his three awesome sons.

David Phillips

As a Partner at Yellow Point, David serves on the boards of Cast Steel Products, Edo Japan, Foley’s, CAS and Nature’s Emporium, and is a former director of MacKay. He holds a JD/MBA from the University of British Columbia and a B.Sc from McGill.

In the community, David has volunteered as a director with the North Shore Community Foundation, a group that funds charitable initiatives on Vancouver’s North Shore. He has also contributed to the Vancouver Board of Trade as a committee representative and to the GI Society as a director. Other initiatives include volunteering with the Vancouver General Hospital and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

David has three young children whose burgeoning interest in sports keeps him very busy on weekends. He is a competitive squash player, an enthusiastic swimmer and regular bicycle commuter. He enjoys reading about business and history and is passionate about supporting executives in taking their companies to new heights.

Brad Hill

As a Partner at Yellow Point, Brad currently serves on the boards of Phillips Brewing, Securiguard, Remcan, CIMS, State Group and Bravo Target Safety. He is primarily involved in sourcing, evaluating, executing and managing new investments, and working with portfolio companies on growth initiatives. Brad’s true passion is partnering with talented management teams to take their companies to the next level.

Prior to joining Yellow Point in 2019, Brad was a Managing Director with PwC Corporate Finance, where he advised private companies on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and capital raising, with a specific focus on the consumer and industrial sectors. Brad began his career in KPMG’s financial services audit practice.

Outside the office, Brad devotes most of his time to his two young, high-energy kids. He is also a passionate cyclist and enjoys exploring the Lower Mainland on two wheels at every opportunity.

Brad is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and CFA charterholder. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Royal Roads University.

Daniel Barends

Vice President

As a Vice President at Yellow Point, Daniel is primarily involved with portfolio company monitoring and supporting the evaluation of new investment opportunities, due diligence activities, and transaction execution.

Prior to joining Yellow Point in 2021, Daniel was an Assistant Vice President with PwC Corporate Finance, where he assisted in providing acquisition, divestiture and financing solutions to clients across a range of industries. Daniel started his career in PwC’s audit practice, focusing on real estate and forestry clients.

Daniel is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of British Columbia.

Outside of work, you can find Daniel enjoying the many outdoor activities that Vancouver and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Tiffany Grisdale Kearnes

Controller

Tiffany joined the Yellow Point team in 2016 as the firm’s Controller, with a focus on financial reporting and investor relations. With a background in finance, planning and budgeting, Tiffany has large company experience in a variety of industries including high tech, investment and mining.

Tiffany is a Chartered Professional Accountant who obtained her designation after completing UBC’s commerce prep series. She also holds a BA Honors from the University of Western Ontario.

Outside of work she’s kept busy by her three young children, her dog, her big extended family and her circle of friends.

Rusty Goepel

Non-Executive Chairman

Rusty chairs Yellow Point’s investment committee. A co-founder of Goepel Shields & Partners, Rusty worked alongside a group of senior investment industry officers to successfully merge the firm with McDermid St. Lawrence to form Goepel McDermid. A leader in mid-market investment banking, Goepel McDermid was ultimately purchased by Raymond James, where Rusty continues to act as a Senior Vice President.

Rusty’s extensive experience in the Canadian investment sector has led to board roles on the Board of Governors of the Business Council of BC, the Vancouver Airport Authority, Telus Corporation, Baytex Energy and Amerigo Resources.

Rusty’s achievements have additionally been recognized with numerous awards and roles, including the Order of British Columbia; Golden and Diamond Queen’s Jubilee Medals for Business Leadership and Community Service; Chair of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games; Governor of the Vancouver Stock Exchange; Executive Committee Member of the Investment Dealer’s Association and President of the Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.

Rusty is a frequent speaker at business and philanthropic events throughout western Canada. His allergies include three putts and bad wine.
