FUND WILL FOCUS ON UNDER SERVICED NICHE –
LATER STAGE PRIVATE COMPANIES BASED IN WESTERN CANADA
Vancouver, B.C. June 23, 2004 – Yellow Point Equity Partners LP today announced the closing of Yellow Point 1, the company’s inaugural private equity fund. The fund was established to invest in later stage private companies primarily based in western Canada. Together with its co-investment partners, Yellow Point 1 will commit between $2 million and $20 million per investment.
The fund was backed by Cypress Capital, one of western Canada’s leading money management firms and 18 CEOs from some of western Canada’s most successful companies. “Yellow Point recognized that there is a lack of private capital for quality later staged companies in western Canada. Their commitment to this market and strong management team are what drew us to Yellow Point.” says Greg Bay, Partner at Cypress Capital.
Yellow Point was founded by Managing Partners, Brian Begert and David Chapman, and non-Executive Chairman, Rusty Goepel. Collectively, the three principals have over 70 years of experience in structuring private placements, IPO’s and sale transactions for private companies in western Canada. They have each made a significant personal investment in Yellow Point 1, ensuring that their interests are fully aligned with the fund’s investors and portfolio companies.
The mandate of Yellow Point 1 is to help build significant and sustainable growth businesses in partnership with outstanding management teams. It invests in a wide range of industries, from basic manufacturing to technology, communications, healthcare and services, and in a broad range of situations, including growth capital, management buy-outs and recapitalizations. Yellow Point gravitates to companies with an established market position, a compelling product or service, a winning strategy and annual revenues between $5 million and $100 million.
