Vancouver will still have a Blast
If you're going to get swallowed by a dragon, make sure the dragon has some fire.
That was the case Wednesday when Vancouver-based interactive marketing firm Blast Radius was bought by international conglomerate WPP. Whereas Blast Radius had good numbers -- 350 employees, six offices in four countries, and revenues of $41.8 million Cdn in 2006 -- new parent WPP has more than 100,000 employees, 2,000 offices in 106 countries, and 2006 revenues of $11.7 billion Cdn. |

David Chapman selected for BIV's Top 40 under 40 club.
Destiny is what you make of it. Ask David Chapman. After eight years
as an investment banker with Merrill Lynch Canada, and a posting as its
group head for the B.C. region, Chapman walked away and in April 2001
became the CEO for energy technology company Greenlight Power Technologies. |

Financier Rusty Goepel’s interests cover a range of businesses
and endeavours. His name is wedded to the changes that transformed Vancouver
brokerages in the late 1990s. As CEO, he guided Goepel Shields & Partners
Inc. through its 1998 merger with McDermid St. Lawrence Securities Ltd.
to become Goepel McDermid, which grew to have $3.5 billion in assets under

The investment team at Yellow Point Equity Partners, a newly formed Vancouver-based
private equity fund, looked at about 100 proposals before settling on
its first investment: a $7-million stake in Prism Medical Ltd., a publicly
listed, Ontario-based company that makes equipment to help the mobile-impaired. |
